376 Jengu hand-washing units

Date: 2018
Designed by: Arup

Originally developed in 2018 in collaboration with Arup (a multinational corporation that offers engineering, design, planning, project management, and consulting services for building systems), Jengu is an open source blueprint for a durable handwashing unit for use in humanitarian emergency settings. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, these handwashing units have helped slow the spread of the disease where people congregate. Built  locally and with affordable materials, the units have a foot pump which prevents people repeatedly touching and contaminating a tap.
