Responding to the need to balance public health concerns with the desire for human connection, architecture firm Scott Brownrigg has collaborated with engineers Ramboll and Hoare Lea to design a Social Contact Pod. The pod allows people to meet vulnerable family members without risk of transmission. The pod is divided by a perspex wall to allow full visual interaction, while metal ceiling panels with integrated speakers transmit sound across the barrier. The panel features a strip of stretchy plastic which allows pod-users to hold hands. The pod also boasts entry ramps, handle-less doors and an air-purging system which cleans the space between uses.
