LIGC Applications has designed the Guardian G-Volt face mask, which features a graphene filtration system which can be sterilised and re-used. The laser-induced graphene is a microporous conductive foam that can both trap bacteria and conduct the electricity needed to sterilise the mask after use. This use of graphene means that the Guardian G-Volt is 99% effective in protecting against particles over 0.3 micrometers. Comparatively, an N95 respirator mask blocks 95% of particles over 0.3 micrometers. The mask comes with a docking system sterilises the mask through the use of heat and a low level electrical charge which repels any trapped particles. The Guardian G-Volt is currently being crowdfunded online.
