As many people have taken up cycling in response to COVID-19, many German cities have responded by spray painting pop up bike lanes. The move have been necessary to ensure cyclists can keep a customer 1.5-metre distance from each other as they navigate streets with dramatically fewer cars. According to the Guardian, 'Residents in 133 other German cities have formally submitted applications for similar pop-up bike lanes to their local authorities on the back of a campaign by Environmental Action Germany (DUH), an environmental NGO.'
